Yesterday we were treated to what was largely termed by the media as “Jubilee protests” against the Judiciary. It is my belief that those protests were organized by persons not affiliated to Jubilee, and for lovers of political drama, this move right here deserves recognition.
A certain member of NASA, while on a TV program last night stated that the Jubilee party was the first party in the 2017 elections to stage a well organized mass protest. Going by the media, this is actually very true, and it obviously doesn’t augur well for the government.
He also went on to ask why during the “Jubilee protests” at the Supreme Court there was no heavy security presence as it was during the hearing of the petition and why the police didn’t try to disperse the crowds.
Now, as I have said, Jubilee did not plan those protests and as the government they were not aware of them until they actually happened. After receiving news of the various protests they got to know that it was “their people” who were protesting and as such there is no way they would have sent police officers to deal with them.
In the various Jubilee strongholds that the protests occurred, their supporters were actually very happy with the protests terming them as a way of showing the opposition that they cannot be taken lightly or as some have put it “ata sisi ni wanaume” And this is where the orchestrators hit the nail on the head; they had the will of the people. Jubilee was beaten at its own game and the moment they even try to defend “their” protests they sound more guilty.
Kudos to NASA for turning up the heat and finally treating us to some smart politics instead of the cheap politics we’re used to. This was a move that deserves a scene in House of Cards.
